Training of Non-Statutory Departmental Canteens Employees on Food Safety Standards

This Office Memorandum from the Ministry of Personnel & Public Grievances & Pensions directs all Ministries/Departments to nominate employees from Non-Statutory Departmental Canteens for training on Food Safety and Standards norms. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will conduct the training, following a previous order requesting Ministries to procure licenses under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The memorandum details distribution to various government bodies, including the President’s and Vice-President’s Secretariats, the Cabinet Secretariat, and relevant departments for action and dissemination. It also requests the NIC (DOPT) to publish the memorandum on their website and directs the Section Officer (Canteens) to maintain copies.

Subject: Training of Non- Statutory Departmental Canteens employees on Food Safety & Standards norms by Food Safety & Standards Authority of India.

The undersigned is directed to refer to this Department’s OM of even dated 30.05.2016 wherein all Ministries/Departments were requested to take necessary action for procuring License under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules & Regulations framed thereunder.

  1. In order to facilitate implementation of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, FSSAI has agreed to organize training of employees of Non-Statutory Departmental Canteens. Accordingly, all the Ministries/Departments are requested to approach FSSAI (Contact No. 011-23231681) and nominate canteen employees for undergoing training program being organized by FSSAI under intimation to this Department.
