The central government has recently approved a significant inter-cadre transfer for an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. This decision, made under the specific provisions of Sub-rule (2) of Rule 5 of the Indian Administrative Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954, sees Shri Mukund Thakur, an IAS officer of the 2020 batch originally assigned to the Kerala cadre, now being transferred to the Chhattisgarh cadre. This transfer was facilitated after obtaining the necessary consents from both the Kerala and Chhattisgarh state governments, and is based on the grounds of marriage to Ms. Namrata Chaubey, an IAS officer from the 2022 batch of the Chhattisgarh cadre. Such transfers are common mechanisms to support civil servants in managing their personal lives while continuing their dedicated service to the nation.
