The Indian Forest Service (Regulation of Seniority) Rules, 1997, have been amended by the Government of India. These amendments, effective from their publication in the Official Gazette, introduce changes to how seniority weightage is calculated for Indian Forest Service officers. Specifically, the rules now detail weightage based on years of service: up to 12 years of service grants one year of weightage for every completed four years, with a minimum of three years; service between 12 and 21 years grants one year of weightage for every completed three years; and service beyond 21 years grants one year of weightage for every completed two years, capped at a maximum of three years. These changes were made in consultation with state governments and are intended to update the existing seniority regulations.
