Important revisions have been introduced to the remuneration framework for personnel serving in the Indian Forest Service. These updates stem from recommendations put forth by the Fifth Central Pay Commission and are aimed at streamlining pay structures. Specifically, the amendments modify existing provisions within the Indian Forest Service (Pay) Rules, 1968, by reclassifying ‘special pays’ as ‘special allowances’ for officers holding senior scale positions under State Governments. The revised guidelines further clarify that the precise amount of these special allowances, which can range from Rs.100 to Rs.800, will be periodically determined by the respective State Government. A notable aspect of these changes is their retrospective application, coming into effect from August 1, 1997, ensuring that eligible officers benefit from these adjustments from the specified date.
