In a recent development concerning the Indian civil services, a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Shri Basharat Qayoom from the 2016 batch (Jharkhand Cadre), has received an extension for his inter-cadre deputation. This significant decision grants him an additional year of service within the AGMUT Cadre, specifically for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, extending his tenure beyond February 23, 2025. What makes this extension particularly noteworthy is that it has been approved in relaxation of the existing policy, highlighting the unique circumstances or specific needs for his continued service. The central government has also issued clear directives to all relevant authorities, including the officer himself, emphasizing the strict adherence to the new deputation end date. It underscores that any failure to hand over charge by the stipulated time will lead to disciplinary action and a break in service, with instructions also issued to stop salary payments beyond the approved period to ensure compliance. This move reflects the dynamic nature of cadre management within the IAS, balancing administrative requirements with established rules.
