The Government of India has declared Saturday, April 14th, 2018, as a closed holiday to commemorate the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. This holiday applies to all Central Government Offices and Industrial Establishments across India. The decision is based on the powers outlined in Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. All ministries and departments are instructed to communicate this decision to relevant parties. The memorandum also lists the various organizations and offices to which this notification is being circulated, including constitutional bodies, commissions, and welfare committees, and requests for publicity through the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the Department of Personnel & Training (DOPT) website.

Subject: Declaration of Holiday on 14th April, 2018 – Birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

It has been decided to declare Saturday, the 14th April 2018, as a Closed Holiday on account of the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, for all Central Government Offices including Industrial Establishments throughout India.

  1. The above holiday is also being notified in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (26 of 1881)

  2. All Ministries/Departments of Government of India may bring the above decision to the notice of all concerned.
