Central Civil Services (Leave) Amendment Rules, 2007

The President of India has amended the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, through a notification issued on October 26, 2007. These amendments concern the maximum amount of study leave that can be granted to government servants. For most government employees, the maximum study leave is twelve months at a time, with a total of twenty-four months throughout their service. Central Health Service Officers are eligible for up to thirty-six months of study leave for postgraduate qualifications, but are required to sign a bond committing to five years of service after completing their studies. The rules came into effect upon publication in the Official Gazette.

NOTIFICATION

G.S.R. $\qquad$ In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to article 309 read with clause (5) of article 148 of the Constitution, the President hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, namely:-

  1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Civil Services (Leave) Amendment Rules, 2007.
    (2) They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
  2. In the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, for rule 51, the following rule shall be substituted, namely:-
    “51. Maximum amount of study leave:- (1) The maximum amount of study leave, which may be granted to a Government servant, other than Central Health Service Officers, shall be –
    (a) ordinarily twelve months at any one time, and
    (b) during his entire service, twenty-four months in all (inclusive of similar kind of leave for study or training granted under any other rules).
    (2) In respect of Central Health Service Officers, study leave may be granted for thirty-six months for acquiring post graduate qualification, subject to the condition that a Central Health Service Officer who has been granted such study leave shall execute a bond under sub-rule (4) of rule 53 to serve the Government for a period of five years after completion of the study course”.
