CBI Officer’s Deputation Extension for Coal Block Allocation Cases

C

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Selection Committee has considered a proposal to extend the deputation tenure of Shri Keshav Ram Chaurasia, an IPS officer, for his role in investigating Coal Block allocation cases. This extension is crucial as the officer is part of a CBI team handling these investigations, which are ongoing and under the purview of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has previously directed that officers involved in these investigations should not be changed without its permission. The Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated a process to obtain cadre clearance for the officer from the concerned State Government. The Committee has recommended that the Apex Court be informed of the situation and its guidance sought regarding the officer’s continued deputation. Until the Court’s instructions are received or the current deputation ends, the officer will continue in his current role. The communication is copied to various authorities including the Central Vigilance Commissioner, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the NIC for website updates.
