Amendment to Indian Police Service (Recruitment) Rules, 2011

A

This document introduces significant amendments to the Indian Police Service (Recruitment) Rules of 1954, specifically concerning recruitment methods. The key changes involve the introduction of “limited competitive examination” as a recruitment avenue, alongside the existing “promotion of members of a State Police Service.” The rules also outline that the frequency of these limited competitive examinations will be determined by the Central Government in consultation with the relevant Commission. Furthermore, the conduct of these examinations will be managed by the Commission, adhering to regulations set by the Central Government in collaboration with State Governments. A crucial aspect of these amendments is the provision for special representation in the Service for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. Candidates from these groups who are declared suitable for appointment based on merit, even without reservation benefits, will be appointed against unreserved vacancies, ensuring their inclusion while maintaining administrative efficiency. The document also includes a comprehensive list of previous notifications and amendments related to the Indian Police Service Recruitment Rules, dating back to 1954.
