Amendment to Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, regarding acceptance of gifts

A

This notification introduces amendments to the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, specifically concerning the acceptance of gifts by government servants. The amended rules clarify that government servants may accept and retain gifts of a symbolic nature from foreign dignitaries. Gifts from foreign dignitaries that are not symbolic can be retained if their market value in the country of origin does not exceed Rs. 3,000. For gifts where there is doubt about their symbolic nature or market value, acceptance and retention will be governed by instructions issued by the Government. Importantly, government servants are prohibited from accepting any gift from a foreign firm that is currently contracting with the Government of India or has had or is likely to have dealings with the government servant. Acceptance of gifts from other foreign firms will be subject to existing provisions.
