ACC Directives on Delegating Power for Premature Repatriation of Officers on Inter-Cadre Deputation

A

A significant policy shift has occurred in the administration of civil services, streamlining the process for government officers who need to return early from inter-cadre deputation. Previously, such requests, often driven by personal circumstances like a child’s educational needs, required high-level approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Now, this authority has been delegated to the Cabinet Secretary. This new directive empowers the Cabinet Secretary to approve premature repatriations for officers on inter-cadre deputation, specifically when their tenure is due to end on May 31st prior to its scheduled completion. This change is expected to make the process more efficient for officials seeking an early return to their parent cadres, as exemplified by a case involving an IAS officer’s request to move between Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh cadres.
