Extension of Ad-hoc Appointments of Under Secretaries

This order extends the ad-hoc appointments of ten Under Secretaries for an additional six months, up to December 31, 2022, or until their regular appointments are made. The extensions are contingent on continued service in the role and are subject to the outcomes of ongoing legal cases related to ad-hoc promotions. The order applies to officers previously covered under the Department’s 2011 order regarding the promotion of Section Officers to Under Secretary on an ad-hoc basis. Concerned ministries and departments have been notified via the DOPT website.

ORDER

In continuation of this Department’s Order of even number dated 2nd July, 2021, with the approval of the Competent Authority, the tenure of ad-hoc appointment in respect of the following serving Under Secretaries is hereby extended, for 6 months beyond 30.06.2022 i.e. up to 31.12.2022 or till their regular appointment as Under Secretary or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

  1. These Under Secretaries are covered under this Department’s order No.5/7/2011-CS.I(U) dated 11.08.2011 and subsequent orders issued from time to time, for promotion of Section Officers of CSS to the Grade-I (Under Secretary) on ad-hoc basis.
  2. This order will be applicable to all the above officers who are continuously holding the post of Under Secretary on ad-hoc basis as per aforementioned orders. The continuation of the ad-hoc appointment beyond 30.06.2022 is subject to the conditions as mentioned in this Department’s aforementioned orders.
  3. The extension of term of ad-hoc promotion will also remain subject to the order/outcome of the Jarnail Singh batch of cases.
