The Indian government has extended the facility for online filing of Right to Information (RTI) applications through a dedicated web portal. This service, initially available to 37 ministries and departments, will be rolled out to all remaining central government bodies by August 21, 2013. The extension, however, will not apply to field offices, attached, or subordinate offices at this time. Ministries and departments are urged to provide training to their Chief Public Information Officers (CPIOs) and First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) using resources and officials trained by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) and National Informatics Centre (NIC). Further training can be arranged upon request. RTI Nodal Officers are responsible for updating CPIO and FAA details in the system and issuing user credentials promptly.
