The Government of India, through the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has issued a notification amending the Indian Police Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955. The key change specifies that members of the State Police Service who have reached the age of fifty-six years on the first day of January of the year for which a select list is being prepared will not be considered for promotion. However, provisions are made for those whose names were on a select list from a previous year and who were not appointed due to circumstances beyond their control, or if a committee meeting was not held in preceding years. This amendment, effective from its publication in the official Gazette, aims to streamline the promotion process while ensuring fairness.
