Order Regarding Appointment and Seniority of State Civil Service Officers to IAS (West Bengal Cadre)

O

A significant development has occurred within the Indian administrative framework, as a new cohort of State Civil Service officers from the West Bengal Cadre has been formally inducted into the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS). This move follows a meticulous selection process, culminating in their inclusion in the Select List of 2023. A key aspect of this induction is the precise computation of their seniority and year of allotment, which is strictly governed by the IAS (Regulation of Seniority) Rules, 1987. These rules, along with subsequent amendments, utilize a specific weightage formula that considers an officer’s completed years of qualifying service to determine their seniority within the IAS. This ensures a transparent and equitable system for integrating new members. The order formalizes the placement of these officers within the IAS West Bengal Cadre, clearly defining their position relative to existing IAS officers and ensuring a smooth transition into their new roles.
